MODULAR CLOTHING SYSTEMS
Investigating my values on the relationship between fashion production and consumption has led me to pursue avenues of design that celebrate user input. My interest lies in maximizing the capacity for garment alteration through modularity. I want to inspire independent creativity with clothing, to find a space between rigid production and consumption where designers’ and users’ visions meet.
Modular clothing design confronts the wearer with the labor of activation. Each garment houses detachable 'components' connected through hand-sewn silver snap closures. Guided garment construction can lead users to explore their capacity for alteration beyond these modular pieces and draw attention to how the body can be reshaped through dynamic form. These pieces rely on the interaction of the user to validate their utility.
The iterative nature of a draft gets carried over to the process of styling, encouraging unhindered creativity.
